The dictionary describes the word ‘infatuation’ in one sentence. The state of being infatuated; foolish or all-absorting passion.
The word ‘love’ covers more than a half page. Love: 1. A profoundly tender passionate affection for a person of the opposite sex. 2. a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection, as for a parent, child, or friend. 3. sexual passion or desire, or its gratification. 4. strong liking; goodwill; benevolence; charity; devoted attachment; to be delighted with; to admire. There is much more, but I think that is enough to get the drift.
Lust is defined as: Sexual desire or appetite, esp, when uncontrolled or illicit. A passionate or overmastering desire.
Now, if you are like me, I’m a bit confused and wondering how to distinguish between infatuation, lust, or love? Perhaps the mind, rather than the heart, would be a place to discover the answer. A feeling from the heart is all emotional, whereas a logical explanation from the mind makes for common sense.
One could say that infatuation and lust is ‘restless’, while love is ‘calm’. One might say that infatuation and lust generally occurs fast and immediately, but fades with time and reality. Whereas love develops over time and last longer. (So much for ‘love at first sight’.)
If you are like me, I’m just getting more confused by the minute. What say you? Is it love, lust or just infatuated?
Most of my blogs cover events in my books. The ‘Comeback Kid’ had some unique infatuation, lust, and/or love experiences. Once he thought to be in love with two women at the same time, only to find out maybe both was lust or infatuation? Did he ever figure out the difference?
